88 – Moon Taxi

I just came across a great wee list of modern rock bands today that’s been tickling my fancy and making my eardrums happy. So I thought I’d post some of them over the next few days as a little post-Easter treat.

Now, some of the entries on the list wouldn’t necessarily fall under my definition of “new” by any stretch of the imagination (unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past 20 years and haven’t heard of Weezer or the Deftones) but there are plenty of more recent groups included that I’ve not come across before.

First off, we have Nashville five-piece Moon Taxi who have a sort of Kings of Leon prog-rock sound mixed with John Frusciante’s solo vocals. It’s a strange mix, but a really, really lovely sound – and I’m a big fan of this song Red Hot Lights in particular.

Go listen to their  2015 album Daybreaker too. It’s a great record and well worth your time – although the other songs are a little more along the indie/alternative vein than the more rocky sound of Red Hot Lights.
