81 – Jon Stickley Trio

I appear to have found myself on another random folk kick, which is a situation I’m certainly not disheartened by. The last time I went on one of these, I found some amazing songs that are still firm favourites to this day, so I’m excited to see what comes along this time round.

So let’s start with some frenetic fingerpicked bluegrass-reel fusion folk madness from Asheville, NC. The band is the Jon Stickley Trio and they’re outstanding. Their latest album Lost at Last is fantastic and filled with guitar-and-fiddle goodness aplenty – but my favourite song is still the opener Point to Point.

It’s a purely instrumental track and an absolutely stunning piece of intricate music. I want to be able to play like this when I grow up.
