77 – Sofi Tukker

Yet more NPR Austin 100 stuff today and i promise you it’s an absolute belter. Behold New York duo Sofi Tukker and their amazing debut single Drinkee.

Inspired by Brazilian poet Chacal and with lyrics directly adapted from one of his poems, this is a bouncy, funky little piece of indie dance/pop/rock fusion. Beats, bongos and an awesome wee guitar lick that drives the melody through its various movements, it kind of reminds me of a piece of avant-garde, experimental French pop. And that’s not a bad thing at all.

Anyhow, check it out. I’m a little disappointed that there’s no official video, but the music is excellent so hopefully the lack of visuals won’t be too much of an annoyance.
