29 – Marika Hackman

Eerie, hazy indie folk from English songstress Marika Hackman, with the heart-wrenchingly melancholy Before I Sleep.

There seems to be a lot of this kind of music out there just now – the throat-y, breathless vocals over a swirling backdrop of light samples and guitars – but this is one of the best examples I’ve heard so far. It’s thoroughly immersive and achingly beautiful. I could listen to this stuff for hours.
