Up today is an artist that I’ve been hearing a bit of buzz about recently, although I’m not sure just how much exposure he’s had outside of his native Australia. I’ve managed to stay pretty much ignorant to his stuff, so I’m coming in completely cold to him now – and I’ve been really impressed with what I’ve found.
The musician in question is electronica king Chet Faker, a chart-topping act Down Under with a tonne of Triple J-endorsed creed behind his name. And it’s not difficult to see why: his latest single Bend is absolutely stunning, with its light, dreamy verses full of ethereal distorted vocals clashing nicely with the sleazy guitars and squelchy beats that litter each chorus.
I’m not usually a fan of ambient electronica, but when you have something that sounds like the result of an Alabama 3/Royksopp orgy, it’s hard not to like it.
