I’ve recently come across some really interesting stuff on my musical journey, which I’ll be posting over the coming days. But to start it off, here’s a song that I only just heard for the first time yesterday and it’s been rattling in my brain ever since.
It’s the latest single by Manchester art-house rockers Everything Everything and it’s called Regret (a nice wee New Order shout-out which I can’t imagine is coincidental). And it’s a stunner of a tune.
There’s a load of different influences at play here, stretching back go The Police’s late 70s heyday through to the anthemic parts of Queen’s latter years and the down and dirty parts of pre-Britpop indie. Oh yeah, and with some Gotye thrown in for good measure.
I think it’s an awesome tune and a welcome break from the chart-friendly indie norms currently on offer on Spotify’s weekly new music updates. Hope you enjoy it too.
