A lazy Sunday track to welcome in the end of the week, courtesy of Boston singer-songwriter Chadwick Stokes.
Now, this could be a slightly ambiguous entry in terms of eligibility for my list. Stokes has been going for ages, as both a member of American indie-roots band Dispatch and political alt-rock trio State Radio; but as neither of those acts have been (as far as I’m aware) particularly huge over in the UK, he’s well within the remit for inclusion. Plus, this is him as a solo act which, as I think I’ve covered in previous posts, is probably acceptable anyway.
Whatever the case, I’ve chosen his 2014 single I Want You Like a Seatbelt which is a gorgeously catchy little tune – channelling his inner Paul Simon in a “Me and Julio”-esque meander down campfire guitar choruses, sunny hand claps and sweet, simple imagery. It’s a 70s folk track updated for the 2010s and it’s absolutely bloody lovely.
