Day 224 – Chris Devotion & The Expectations

Glaswegian rock & roll sounds for the start of the week, with a catchy-as-hell track from the wonderfully-named Chris Devotion & The Expectations.

I think I saw an article in The Herald a wee while back about these guys and the paper was raving about their last album, so I decided to give it a quick whirl – and it’s great fun. All Elvis Costello-ish guitars, 80s sub-glam swagger and not-quite-Ramones vocals which sounds like a combination that shouldn’t really work, but it does.

This is easily my favourite song – Saddest Thing – which as far as I’m concerned should be getting played in every indie/rock club on both sides of the Central Belt. It’s infectious, fun and a hell of a lot less laddish and chav-baity than, say, half of the stuff that The Fratellis have done: which is a good thing.

Great job boys – really liking this. More please.
