Something synth-y, poppy and unashamedly saccharine today, from New York indie popsters MisterWives.
Kind of like a mutant hybrid of No Doubt, The Go! Team, Of Monsters and Men and the weird candy-laced K-Pop band that did the Sugar Rush song at the end of Wreck It Ralph, they’re a happy, folky, shiny group of misfits who seem to delight in brash, laser-sharp tunes that sound like an 80s throwback night on amphetamines.
I’ve decided against using their more well-known single Reflections – which is good but just a little too chirpy for my tastes – and instead opted for Twisted Tongue, the opening track to their 2014 debut mini-album. And it’s a cracking song; particularly once the chorus kicks in.
Apparently there’s a full length debut LP planned for sometime in 2015, which I’m intrigued to hear. Should be fun.
