Day 116 – Death From Above 1979

Before the fizz starts coming out and the traditionally humungous festive lunch gets eaten, I thought I’d put a very quick post up.

This is Crystal Ball by Canadian rock duo Death From Above 1979. They’ve been kicking around the North American charts since their debut in 2004, but with middling success over on this side of the Atlantic – so they qualify for a mention here.

Taken from their recent 2014 album The Physical World, this is great stuff indeed. Kind of reminiscent of the mid-2000s heavy alt-rock scene led by bands like The Bravery and Queens of the Stone Age, this song has dirty guitar licks and pounding drums aplenty – kind of like The Automatic’s Monster if it was plugged into a local nuclear plant and grew some bigger balls.

Not really a Yuletide song I know, but I thought you’d probably want something different to counteract the John & Yoko/Slade schmaltz. Merry Christmas!
