Day 104 – Husky

Melodic, musing, mellow sounds from Melbourne indie rockers Husky today, with Saint Joan – taken from their 2014 album Ruckers Hill.

This is super-sweet stuff indeed, blending the best parts of A Rush of Blood to the Head-era Coldplay and the Doves cira-The Last Broadcast, along with some modern day indie in the vein of groups like Boy & Bear.

I particularly like the jangly guitar riff that builds up from the song’s intro into the pre-chorus line, with the lashings of ethereal sustain that makes it sound like part of a completely different song that’s been spliced onto the top. It shouldn’t really work, but it’s very, very nicely executed and sounds great.

The rest of the album is worth a listen too – particularly I’m Not Coming Back, which wounds like the kind of tune that could have been lifted straight off Jose Gonzalez’s Veneer. Very intricate stuff indeed.
