Day 99 – Circa Waves

It’s another one of those “finally getting round to including this band/tune on the list” kind of days today, so I’ll get straight to it.

This is the fast and frenetic Young Chasers by Liverpudlian indie rock foursome Circa Waves. It’s a splendid 2-minute thrash of dirty, urban guitars and bass that sounds like the unholy alliance you’d get if The Strokes and The Las had an illicit tryst.

There’s been a fair bit of buzz about these guys over the past year, with a Zane Lowe recommendation and NME Awards slot among the early notches in their belt – and you can see why. They’re a tight, shiny piece of indie rock that specialise in a fast pace and some delightful throwback sounds, which I’d love to hear live.

I’m not yet convinced that they’ll be the Next Big UK Indie Act (TM), but there’s plenty to be optimistic about in this single. Hopefully they’ll keep that up when they finally get round to releasing their first album.
