Time’s gotten away again, which means it’s another super-short Saturday post – with another band that’s been lingering in the 365 New Music Project “to be used” folder for some time.
This is Birmingham indie pop band Jaws with the title track from their 2014 Be Slowly, and it’s a slightly different take on the genre than some of the other artists I’ve written about so far. These dudes are more of a throwback to The Cure during their Close to Me phase, mixed with some of the shinier aspects of 90s shoegazing.
It’s melodic, chirpy and good fun to listen to, while the rest of the album explores some Stone Roses territory, albeit with gloomier lyrics and a washed-out sounding version of Ian Brown’s distinct vocals. It’s interesting stuff for sure, but I’m more of a fan of the kind of vibe they’re aiming for with Be Slowly.
Full post tomorrow (promise!).
