Day 64 – Middle Class Rut

Something a little more up-tempo today, courtesy of Sacramento alternative rock/metal duo Middle Class Rut.

This is Aunt Betty, from their 2013 album Pick Up Your Head, and its a rip-roaring stomper of a tune. Dirty guitars, industrial Nine Inch Nails-esque drums and distorted, shouty vocals are all in abundance here, alongside an awesome riff that drives the verse forward.

It’s a lot more melodic than the stuff from their debut album No Name No Colour, but maintains a lot of the thrashy, punchy bombastic rock vibe that permeated that LP. And the result is something that’s a whole lot of fun to listen to – angsty, gravelly and the kind of thing I’d happily have moshed my ass off to back when I frequented sweaty, late night rock clubs.

Take a listen and see what you think. Just bear with the Spotify version, which has a quiet 30 second intro before the tune really kicks off. Stay with it – it’s well worth the wait.
