A quick post today, unfortunately, but here’s a great bit of high tempo rock courtesy of awesomely-named Mississippi band Bass Drum of Death.
There’s no real messing around here. Guitars and drums – lots of them – and a Ramones-inspired nasal snarl dominate this track Left for Dead: a sub 3-minute flurry of noise and attitude that I’ve really enjoyed listening to.
It’s part punk, part new wave and part nu-school rock – all wrapped up with catchy chorus lines and delicious lead guitar licks. Sure, there’s nothing desperately original here in terms of musical styles/genres, but it’s so well performed and presented that it just doesn’t matter – and you’re just happy to be taken along on a thoroughly entertaining ride.
Check out the rest of their 2014 album Rip This for some more examples of their throwback punk-rock sound – or maybe delve further into their back catalogue to see some of the other songs that have given them some medium success in the U.S. It’s all good stuff indeed.
