It’s been a while since I posted anything with a more punk-y edge to it, so I’m going to rectify that today with this ace wee tune by Glaswegian girl duo Honeyblood.
The track is Killer Bangs and its a few minutes of relentlessly frantic yet sugary pop-punk-infused goodness. Kind of a mix of the punkiest moments by artists like early-era PJ Harvey, The Breeders, Sonic Youth and Hole, it’s a brilliant aural assault of drums and guitars coated with sweet melodic vocals.
There’s some sterling drum work here, combined with a killer guitar hook and a driving beat that you wouldn’t feel ashamed to pogo your ass to at the front of a sweaty, dingy little rock club. I think it’s wonderful stuff.
I’ve not yet listened to the rest of our eponymous debut album yet, but it’s firmly on my to-do list. If the rest of the songs are anywhere near as good as this one, it could become a new favourite.
